Sap House Meadery needed a new addition to their main line up of meads.

The line-up

When I was approached with this project, the new label needed to fit into the style that was already applied to the 4 other Meads in production. This style was a combination of cheerful colors, photo collages, texture brushes, and Photoshop magic.

This new mead was inspired by a Robert Frost poem that described the drumming noise that perfectly ripe blueberries make when they hit the pail.

Process

After familiarizing myself with the textures and brushes at my disposal from the client, I sourced the imagery, experimenting with the best way to contextualize the drumming theme.

The goal was to make a lively scene where drums and drumsticks were turning berries to jam while making lots of noise in the process.

After two rounds of revisions, the label was ready for production.

"You ought to have seen what I saw on my way
To the village, through Mortenson's pasture to-day:
Blueberries as big as the end of your thumb,
Real sky-blue, and heavy, and ready to drum
In the cavernous pail of the first one to come!
And all ripe together, not some of them green
And some of them ripe! You ought to have seen!"
